1920's Finger Wave Updo!
1920s Finger Waves - An Iconic Flapper Hairstyle
The 1920s was a decade that brought about great changes and with it, a flapper culture that ushered in a multitude of new styles and trends on the fashion scene, including hairstyles. Perhaps one of the most iconic and enduring looks from the era is the finger waves hairstyle, popularized by vaudeville star, Louise Brooks.
As one of the most sought-after hairstyles of the day, finger waves not only provided an elegant look, but they were also designed to help the wearer achieve a more slender profile by creating a narrow silhouette along the sides of the head. This classic style can be recreated today and is a great option for adding a touch of vintage glamour to any outfit.
How To Recreate 1920s Finger Waves
Recreating this chic and glamorous style is surprisingly easier than you may think.
To start, apply a generous amount of setting gel or mousse to damp hair from roots to ends and comb through evenly. Creating finger waves is a manual process, however, no special tools are required. Working in small sections that begin at one ear and go to the other, use your index finger and thumb to press up and down in a ‘s’ motion along the length of the section.
This will create ridges on each side of the section. Tame any rogue flyaways with a lightweight pomade. Once one section is complete, move onto the next one until you have worked around the entire head using the same method.
Finally, finish with a blast of hairspray to ensure the finger waves hold and you will have the ultimate 1920s-inspired hairstyle - one that channels the glamour and sophistication of the era whilst also being completely on-trend.
