1920's Finger Wave Updo!
The Gibson Girl Updo, An Iconic 1920’s Hairstyle
As one of the Top 10 hairstyles of the 1920’s, the Gibson Girl Updo is an iconic look that remains a popular choice for special occasions today. Drawing inspiration from actress and artist Cris Matthews, the Gibson Girl Updo is an elegant style that evokes the classic era of the 1920’s. Whether you are going to a special event or simply want a unique head-turning style, the Gibson Girl Updo is an excellent choice.
The key to achieving the Gibson Girl Updo is careful preparation. Before styling, be sure to have the following on hand:
- A large hairbrush
- Bobby pins
- Hairspray
- Hairpins
- Hairsparks
Step 1: Create a Smooth Base
Start by brushing your hair back, away from your face. Make sure that it is smooth and free of any knots or tangles. Once you have a smooth base, you can begin to style your Gibson Girl Updo.
Step 2: Section the Hair into Two Parts
Divide your hair into two sections: one at the top of the head and one at the nape of the neck. For best results, each section should have at least three layers of hair.
Step 3: Form Soft Curls
Using a medium-sized barrel curling iron, begin to curl each section of your hair. Make sure to curl away from the face and to create soft, loose spirals. Once you have finished curling each section, use your fingers to loosen the curls and create natural-looking waves.
Step 4: Pin the Sections up
Take the top section of your hair and begin to pin it up towards the back of your head. Make sure to use bobby pins and/or hairpins to secure the curls in place. Once you have secured the first section, repeat the same process with the second section at the nape of the neck.
Step 5: Finish and Secure
To finish the look, use hairspray and/or hairsparks to secure your Gibson Girl Updo. Be sure to mist the hairspray lightly so that the curls still look natural. Once you have sprayed the style, you are ready to rock your 1920’s-inspired Gibson Girl Updo.
